Tribal Motifs ~ The Sun Dokra

In Indian mythology and religion the Sun occupies a place of reverence and respect. The Sun is the source of all life forms and without Sun most life will be at stake.

The ingenious tribes worship the Sun as the sustainer of life on earth. Like Hindu ritual the tribal ritual also encourages everyone to start their day after paying homage to Sun God.

In Dokra or the lost wax technique art form, the tribals make make every day objects that are part and parcel of their regular life as symbols of their ornaments. Since the Sun occupies a pivotal place in their life , the Sun dokra is one of the most important and popular dokra symbols.

Below are some of the dokra that my tribal artisans had created. The dokra jewellery have with them the rustic and raw appeal since every item is completely hand made by the atrisans.

Reviving the lost arts of India

Much like a species, on the verge of extinction, numerous art forms of India are about to   get obliterated from the face of this planet.

Reasons? Quite similar to those poor extinct creatures actually.
Lack of breathing space. Lack of advertising and many more.

But one of the prime ones is the lack of opportunity for these legendary craftsmen. So they become poorer everyday. And soon they are forced to encourage their next generation to leave this form of art and venture into something that brings in more money, food and a shed to live in.

It's our goal, mission, idea, or whatever word you might find suitable, to advertise these brilliant craftsmen and their work to the world. Create a channel so that they can create, sell and make enough to live out of from their skills that they've protected for generations.

Visit HerChoice.In. It's unlike any other online store where you buy jewellery from. When you buy any product from HerChoice, we share 15% of the cost with these folks(apart from the manufacturing cost) who are struggling to make a living.

So, do you pay more at HerChoice. In than any other online store? NO. A big No.
Because all these products come straight from the huts of the craftsmen and not from any fancy factory or through some middlemen, you get the benefit of buying them at the lowest price possible.

Come, let's help the lost arts of India breath again. We can do it together.
